SKIPPY BLAIR AWARD

Excellence in West Coast Swing

Skippy Blair’s passion, knowledge, and Universal Unit System have propelled dancers of all dance genres toward success, especially in West Coast Swing. Known as the ‘teacher of teachers,’ Skippy Blair’s guidance and support, for more than 6 decades, elevated and educated thousands of dancers all over the world.

Skippy’s all encompassing Universal Unit System left a legacy that continues to influence through those who had the privilege of studying with her and to those who continue to learn through her teachings.

In order to honor and expose new dancers to the system’s principles and techniques and to encourage future generations towards continuing their education, “The Skippy Blair Excellence in West Coast Swing Award” began at The Open Swing Dance Championships in 2022 and will be awarded each year.

The Award is presented to a Rising Star couple at The Open, who demonstrate excellence in West Coast Swing and the principles of Skippy Blair’s Universal Unit System, (SBUUS). A prestigious panel of experts from Skippy’s Legacy and Family Foundation select the recipients.

The award includes: 2 beautiful etched crystal trophies, “The Skippy Blair Excellence in West Coast Swing Award”, and $1000 in prize money.

The Award is sponsored by Bob Armstrong, Skippy’s son, and Sarah Grusmark.

The Legacy selection panel includes: Sharlot Bott, Mark Scheuffele, Tatiana Mollmann and Jordan Frisbee.
